ice to ice

Welcome and hello! I am avid photographer and kayaker on Georgian Bay. Before each of the 90 trips I paddle every year, from April to December  - ice to ice - I study the marine weather and wind forecasts,  the moonrise and visibility of the Galactic Centre, not to mention the KP Index and GPS conditions for my drone. I’ve been recording trip data since 2014, the beginning of this 4,000km Georgian Bay adventure.

Not a birder

In “ways of seeing”, I chat about photography as a connection with your environment, wherever you might be. And I try to pronounce Kalahari.

Here are some technical details: wildlife photos were taken with a 20mp Nikon D500 and a 46mp D850, a 200-500 zoom lens, a 1.4x teleconverter, shot at f/8 and 1/2500s, and usually at 7-10 frames per second. The majority were taken aboard a yellow 17-1/2 foot Boreal Design P200 kayak, near Franklin Island.

 


Milky Way photos were taken with a 36mp Nikon D800e, on a 14-24 F2.8 at ISO 3200. Aerial photos were taken with a DJI Phantom 4 drone. For fun, find the yellow kayak.
